Antenatal Clinic
An antenatal clinic operates in both surgeries at the following times:
Newcastle Surgery
Friday from 2pm until 3.30pm
Castlewellan Surgery
Tuesday from 2pm until 3.30pm
Asthma/COPD Clinic
Asthma patients can be seen for assessment, education, advice and supervision or alteration of treatment. The aim of this clinic is to diagnose accurately, treat efficiently and get the best possible results, following the British Thoracic Society’s guidelines. The clinic provides individual management plane and follow-up care. Appointments to be made with medical receptionist.
Childhood Immunisation
Our baby clinics are on Tuesdays form 2.00pm until 4.00pm in the Newcastle Surgery, and form 2.30pm until 4.30pm in the Castlewellan Surgery.
The practice will arrange an appointment for mother and baby to have a six- week check up. The Practice Nurse will not administer immunisations until the GP has completed this.
Below is the time scale for immunisations that are carried out by the Practice Nurse:
- At eight weeks - first vaccination
- Twelve weeks - second vaccination
- Sixteen weeks - third vaccination
- One year - Hib/MecC
- Fifteen months - MRR and Pneumococul
- Four years - Pre School Vaccination
Diabetic Clinic
The practice provides a diabetic clinic every second and fourth Wednesday of the month in Newcastle, and every second and fourth Thursday of the month in Castlewellan.
The patient is seen by the specialist diabetic nurse, dietician and podiatrist separately at this one stop clinic. The diabetic clinic is strictly appointment only, this is organised by the specialist diabetic nurse and the receptionist.
Flu and Pneumococcal Vaccination
The Practice follows the Department of Health guidelines in recommending influenza and were indicated pneumococcal vaccinations to patients who have the following conditions:
- Patients aged over 65 or over
- A chronic chest condition such as asthma
- A chronic heart condition
- Chronic liver disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- Diabetes
- Lowered immunity due to disease or treatment such as steroids or cancer therapy Any other serious medical condition – check with your doctor if you are unsure
